課程概述 |
A both practical and theoretical introduction to Chinese-English comparative/contrastive analysis for translators/interpreters. We will begin with sound, from phoneme to syllable to word and phrase, then analyze structure and meaning at the word, phrase, and discursive levels. Then we'll move on to Rhetoric, Stylistics and Register in comparative context. Every time we'll do a sight paragraph warmup! |

課程目標 |
Course Objectives
1) Practice or reinforce analytical abilities at different levels of analysis in both Chinese and English.
2) Learn the basics of phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics in so far as they relate to Chinese/English comparison, and test these concepts out.
3) Learn how rhetoric applies to translation and hone rhetorical skills. |

課程要求 |
Requirements:
1) On a weekly basis: a half page observation, in total 15.
2) Finish a comprehensive analysis of 1 CE and 1 EC translation (both 500 "words"), in pairs.
3) 2 short (quatrain) translations of poetry.
4) 1 5 minute speech and translation.
5) 2 rhetorical analyses, one in English and one in Chinese. |
